The book, Boy of the Painted Cave, by Justin Denzel is 158 pages long. In this book, Tao, a boy with a bad foot, dreams of becoming a cave painter, but can't because of his bad foot. He also wasn't born of a leader/choosen one. Though even breaking all of the rules (or taboos) of the clan in the end, he becomes the new cave painter of the clan.
One of the major conflicts is when Tao goes against his clan by secretly drawing on the cave walls. This goes on throughout the book and no one finds out except for the shaman, Graybeard. When Graybeard comes along he teaches Tao how to draw which is also taboo. If one of his clan members especially the leader, Volt, found out that he is drawing they would either kill him or make him face Saxon the sacred bull.
